The EMS Website Design Project

The Challenge

Many websites utilized by organizations in the emergency medical services communities are crudely designed, not user friendly or engaging, and tend to end up being created and forgotten. The challenge was to create a website that would be easily updatable – thus vibrant and alive – for the organization.
The Process
I led the team to analyze all available data for the current website and to research additional options. The site being used by the organization at the launch of the project had not been updated in quite some time. Stories or blog posts were dated, leaving a visitor the impression that it was a dead site. The design used old fashion dated images with a blue tinting. There were no call-to-action buttons. No direction for a visitor. It was simply not inviting.
The goals:
1)    Make it more active. Give visitors call outs, buttons to take action.
2)    Create a new color scheme.
3)    Increase SEO and search function.
4)    Make it a sight that the leadership of the organization can update down the road without the need for the additional design team.
Ideation

We produced a handful of wireframe concepts for the site, along with the design of several color scheme options. Some colors were required to keep with the organization branding. We also worked with the basic design for a mobile app.

The Outcome
After reviewing initial designs and weighing the final goals with the team, the organization created a site that blends many of the functions in the original goals. The team continues to make alterations on the site, including fonts, colors and tools.
